About Us

Mission

The mission of HOHL is to “facilitate and guide a renewed collaborative effort of stakeholders with a common interest in securing the overall health of Higgins Lake for generations to come.”

Goal
Our goal is to bring the community together to take a fresh look at a range of issues potentially affecting the health of the lake – including fertilizer use, recreational activities, septic systems, road end runoff, invasive species, etc.

Who are we

We are a group of volunteers that care about Higgins Lake.  We responded to Gerrish Township’s solicitation for applicants interested in serving on the Steering Committee and subcommittees (Science, Road End/Fertilizer, Septic/Wells, Funding, Communications IT).

There was a tremendous response, and committee members are talented people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences – residents and nonresidents, people who live on and off the lake in both Gerrish and Lyon, engineers, environmental specialists, PhD’s, and IT professionals.

Committee members have very different viewpoints but share a commitment to the health of the lake.  If you are interested in being part of this initiative please contact us at HOHL@Gerrishtownship.org

Trustee Jim Ostling explains what is different between Health of Higgins Lake and other organizations around the lake.
